Premiered in Studio 1 of the State House of Broadcasting and Sound Recording, Moscow — a hall with long associations to Soviet and Russian orchestral history. Performed by the State Symphony Orchestra “New Russia” under Denis Vlasenko.
The work sets a turntable with vinyl as an additional instrument, a soloist both inside and outside the orchestra. The title points to this proximity — two types of material that never fully merge, always remaining close.

The form unfolds in three waves, each rising and breaking, leading to the final transformation in which all wind and brass give way to clay whistles of different sizes, creating a fragile and unstable airy timbre.

Near received the highest evaluation at its diploma presentation but has not been performed since. It marks the point where orchestral writing became a field of study in itself, a step that opened the way toward later orchestral works.
Premiere at HBSR, May 2019
